Tim Hiddleston fans – or Hiddlestoners, as I believe they’re called – are in for a double helping at the just-kicked-off Toronto International Film Festival. Not only is the actor raising eyebrows for his involvement in Ben Wheatley’s jet-black thriller High Rise, but there’s biopic I Saw The Light to look forward to, with the fan-favorite Brit picking up the guitar and iconic cowboy hat as legendary folk singer, Hank Williams.
An unexpected role though it may be, Hiddleston flaunts his vocal chords to one of Williams’ tracks, Move It On Over. There’s also a fleeting glimpse of Elizabeth Olsen in the debutant clip, who joined the project as the singer’s wife, Audrey Mae.

Written and directed by Marc Abraham, I Saw The Light will chart the meteoric rise and fall of the Alabama legend, who stormed to fame at an early age with such songs as Your Cheatin’ Heart, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry and perhaps his best known hit, Hey Good Lookin’. Addiction to prescription drugs and alcoholic brought this trailblazing career to an abrupt, tragic end, when Williams passed away at the age of 29 due to heart failure.
Now, Abraham is primed to tell his story. Indeed, there’s plenty of meaty material for both Hiddleston and Olsen to sink their teeth into, particularly considering that I Saw The Light will also explore the ramifications of Hank Williams’ fame and how it affected the lives of his nearest and dearest. It is here where Olsen will be given the space to flex her acting muscles, channelling such performances as Martha Marcy May Marlene as she looks to rekindle her relationship with the more dramatic fare.
I Saw The Light will premiere at TIFF this month before making its theatrical release on November 27.
