In the grand scheme of things, Marvel and the Star Wars universe aren’t too dissimilar in that the two franchises share a parent company, though according to sources close to Schmoes Know, the latter may be taking cues from the former when it comes to post-credit stings.

Said to be nothing more than a small teaser, the purported post-credits sequence wouldn’t be as heavy-handed as Marvel’s universe-building ploy – which so often involve major characters from separate films uniting – and would instead be designed to spark excitement for the first of Disney’s Anthology films. Alternating between episodic releases and the standalone features, these Star Wars “stories” are designed to flesh out this most prestigious universe, with Edwards’ maiden entry into the adjacent canon revolving around a devious plan to steal the blueprints of the original Death Star.

Should sources close to Schmoes Know be accurate, this would be the first time that a canonical Star Wars film contained an end credits teaser. It’s not outside the realm of imagination that Disney would be contemplating such a tactic, given that its planning to establish a whole new universe from December 18 onwards, though it’s still best treating this tidbit with caution until we hear official word from either the House of Mouse of Lucasfilm.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18 – France and UK will get the sci-fi sequel a little earlier – while Rogue One: A Star Wars Story touches down on December 16, 2016.
