There’s every chance that 2015 will go down as the year when the horror icons of yesteryear were given a new lease of life. With Michael Myers on the verge of a comeback in the appropriately titled Halloween Returns and murmurings of a new take on A Nightmare on Elm Street, fans of the genre have experienced an ice-cold trickle of nostalgia creep down their spines in recent weeks.
And one studio keen to get in on the action is Myriad Pictures, after announcing plans to move forward with Jeepers Creepers 3. Before you grab your pitchforks and decree the need for long-in-development horror sequels, it’s worth nothing that original writer-director Victor Salva is on board for the horror threequel, while Jonathan Breck and Brandon Smith are ready to tackle the flesh-hungry Creeper once more.
Acting as the first Jeepers Creepers in over a decade, one would assume that the task of modernizing a horror icon would prove exceedingly difficult, but for Salva, he’s taking it in his stride.
“Writing and directing a new ‘Jeepers’ film, the first in over a decade, is incredibly exciting for me and I believe for ‘Jeepers’ fans all over the world that have been asking for more,” Salva said. “What will go before cameras as ‘Jeepers Creepers 3′ is a new and terrifying chapter from the ‘Jeepers’ universe. We are bringing back the Creeper’s truck, and will be addressing the big questions about The Creeper: what it is, where it came from and why it does what it does.”
It’s a development that has been bubbling beneath the surface – merely waiting for the right time to harvest – for years at this point, with the last news of Jeepers Creepers 3 wanting to take flight arriving in 2013. With core members of the original creative team on board, we’re willing to give this horror sequel the benefit of the doubt – for now.
Production on Jeepers Creepers 3 is primed to kick off in Vancouver in 2016.
