Marvel Debuts First Look At Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage Features

Relative to the grand Marvel Cinematic Universe, Netflix's critically-acclaimed Daredevil series can be likened to Jan Faverau's first Iron Man film in that it helped map out the skeleton of a budding, interconnected masterplan - perhaps even more so, given the confidence that now exudes from every corner of the studio. Now that Hell's Kitchen has been established on the small-screen and is primed to return for season 2, that blueprint is beginning to unfold, and the next major milemarker on Marvel's TV slate is Netflix's second superhero pillar, Jessica Jones.

Relative to the grand Marvel Cinematic Universe, Netflix’s critically-acclaimed Daredevil series can be likened to Jan Faverau’s first Iron Man film in that it helped map out the skeleton of a budding, interconnected masterplan – perhaps even more so, given the confidence that now exudes from every corner of the studio. Now that Hell’s Kitchen has been established on the small-screen and is primed to return for season 2, that blueprint is beginning to unfold, and the next major milemarker on Marvel’s TV slate is Netflix’s second superhero pillar, Jessica Jones.

Production is well underway on the show’s New York set, and now the online giant has debuted the first images for the sophomore Defenders series, featuring Krysten Ritter as the titular private eye, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, former Doctor Who star David Tennant and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Centering around Ritter’s erstwhile heroine, Jessica Jones explores the character’s life following her short-lived stint as a superhero in the Big Apple. Swapping the spandex and tights for a badge and a gun, Jones takes up the mantle as a police detective, becoming one of the best in the business of dealing with people with, let’s just say, superhuman abilities.

As Marvel’s small-screen universe begins to come to fruition, one of the key elements pulling the separate strands together is Rosaria Dawson’s Claire Temple. As love interest to Colter’s Luke Cage, the actress has been locked for an appearance on Carl Lucas’ solo series, and there’s every chance that that role could extend to Jessica Jones, too.

Netflix has confirmed that all 13 episodes of Jessica Jones will premiere exclusively on the streaming service on November 20. Seeding the origin story of Colter’s Luke Cage, we fully expect the superhero for hire to feature prominently in Jones’ maiden outing.
