Are the new Star Wars movies about to jump the shark? Ever since it was announced, there have been almost countless rumours about J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, including one very interesting claim that the franchise will utilize flashbacks for the first time with a scene featuring Darth Vader.
We haven’t heard anything about that in a while, as speculation has mostly centred on the iconic villain making an appearance in Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One. But, now a new report reveals that while that’s a very real possibility, it’s actually more likely that Vader will return in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Episode VIII. Oh, and the real kicker here is that he’ll be played by a returning Hayden Christensen.
The actor received mixed reviews for his performance as Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, but donned the iconic costume in the closing moments of the latter. It sounds like this will be a little more than that though, as the site adds that, “a team in the U.K. are soon heading to the U.S. to begin training Hayden Christensen.”
Training? That obviously points to the actor doing more than just standing around in the suit, and there’s a chance that we’ll spend even more time with the one-time Jedi as a young man. Of course, based on the alterations made to Return of the Jedi by George Lucas, there’s nothing to say he won’t show up as a force ghost either. Surely Disney aren’t going to resurrect him, right?
Whatever the answer may be, this is a very interesting – and sure to be controversial – revelation. It’s strictly a rumour for now, but how would you feel about Christensen returning to Star Wars as Darth Vader? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
