Marc Webb Weighs In On Spider-Man’s Debut In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb doesn't feel too bad about losing Spidey, as he's excited to see him join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Whatever faults The Amazing Spider-Man movies may have had (and there were a lot of them), it’s hard to be too harsh about the majority of Marc Webb’s direction. He succeeded in bringing a Spider-Man to big screen in a way which did the comic books justice, but things went off the rails with the sequel thanks to the studio cramming in a huge number of story threads and villains.

The movie ended on something of a cliffhanger with Harry Osborn looking to assemble the Sinister Six, but that’s just one of many plot threads which will never be resolved.

However, as tough as it must have been to have the franchise snatched from him when Sony decided to make a deal with Marvel Studios to have Spider-Man enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Webb revealed that he doesn’t feel as if the whole experience was a “bittersweet” one when he was asked exactly that in an interview with /Film:

“No, I’m very excited for all the folks at Marvel and what they’re going to do with that character. I think he belongs in that universe and there’s a real excitement to see what they come up with. Maybe we’ll all be on a panel someday, Sam, me and whoever directs it.”

The director isn’t wrong about Spider-Man belonging in the MCU, and Sony really had no other choice that to make that happen after the response to TASM 2 and the Sony Hack scandal. Still, we’re definitely a bit disappointed that he never got the chance to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
