Taking a break from worshipping the Many-Faced God in Braavos, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is reportedly in contention to topline Kate Maberly’s adaptation The Forest of Hands and Teeth, according to Variety.

Lifted from Carrie Ryan’s 2009 novel of the same name, the project is a zombie YA film by design, set in a not-so-distant future where the remnants of humanity struggle for survival in the wake of a devastating virus – one that reduces humans to bloodthirsty cannibals. With Doug Liman of Edge of Tomorrow fame on board to produce, writer-director Maberly noted that the thought of “collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug’s” is enough to spur the project into action.

As for the actual plot, here’s a brief synopsis from Ryan’s source material.

“The story is set ‘sometime in the future,’ in a world where most of the human race has been taken by a bloodthirsty virus that leaves them roaming the planet as cannibals. Mary seeks a world beyond the fenced-off village of survivors. The survival of the human race soon becomes dependent upon her success in leading a ragtag group through the dark depths of the Forest of Hands and Teeth.”

It’s understood that Williams has opened talks to star as Mary in The Forest of Hands and Teeth, who could prove to be one of only protagonists in Maberly’s big-screen rendition of the film – not unlike Chloë Grace Moretz’s role in alien invasion film, The 5th Wave.

Variety didn’t specify an exact timeline for The Forest of Hands and Teeth, though the production will naturally have to factor in the actress’ time on Game of Thrones. Outside of the realm of Westeros, Maisie Williams can next be seen alongside Jason Sudeikis and Jessica Biel for indie drama, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.
