Ubisoft Explains The Purpose Of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Microtransactions

Quite rightly, many gamers have become wary of the dreaded beast that is microtransactions, but Ubisoft have set out to reassure fans that no additional content purchased with real money will be unobtainable by those who choose to ignore it. Quite rightly, many gamers have become weary of the dreaded beast that is microtransactions, but Ubisoft have set out to reassure fans that no additional content purchased with real money will be unobtainable by those who choose to ignore it. Speaking in a Q&A session with IGN, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s senior producer, Francois Pellan, stated that the game’s microtransactions are there purely for fans who want to “save time and accelerate progress.”

Pellan gives further reasoning behind the decision to have Syndicate feature microtransactions as a system for those who don’t have the time to play for extended periods of time, stating:

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will include paid options to save time and accelerate progress. The model for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is quite similar to Black Flag, allowing players who do not have time to fully explore our huge game world to still be able to eventually acquire the game’s most powerful gear as well as other items.

Rest assured, all of AC Syndicate’s content is available without paying anything additional and the game has been balanced such that microtransactions are 100% optional.

Pellan’s mentioning of Black Flag suggests that Syndicate will feature boosts for quick character advancement and maps that reveal hidden items and chests, but we’ll just have to wait and see what options the player is given.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate launches on November 19 for PC, and October 23 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
