The first official image has been released from Gold, the upcoming movie from Traffic scribe Stephen Gaghan. As you can see, it features Matthew McConaughey and Edgar Ramirez in the sweaty setting of the Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal. The movie revolves around a struggling businessman who teams up with a hapless geologist to find gold in the Indonesian jungle, and while this still doesn’t reveal much, it nicely sets the tone.

Gold is one of those movies which has been stuck in development hell for a while now, with director Michael Mann and writer Paul Haggis coming close to teaming up with Christian Bale for a version back in 2011. This current iteration was penned by Patrick Massett and John Zinman and is currently set to be released next Fall.

While McConaughey and Ramirez lead the cast, Gold also boasts plenty of other impressive names, including Bryce Dallas Howard, Corey Stoll, Bruce Greenwood, and Toby Kebbell.

McConaughey has been understandably picky since winning almost countless awards for his performances in Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective, so the fact that he signed on to star in this one is definitely a good reason to start getting excited for it.
