With a budget of $110 million, Fox are obviously hoping that The Martian is going to be a huge hit. Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive so far (it holds a score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes), so strong word of mouth should help to ensure it finishes its opening weekend closer to $60 million than $45 million.

The Martian doesn’t have a lot of competition this at the moment, either, with Sicario (which is just as well reviewed) also opening today, but likely to appeal to a much smaller audience.
