Do we really need another movie reimagined for the small screen? Apparently so, because Lethal Weapon is the latest to come to TV with Fox forging ahead with a reboot of the iconic action film, which starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.

Don’t go expecting a prequel or sequel, however, as this is a full on reboot with the same premise. Apparently, like the Lethal Weapon films, the TV version centers on a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs who, following the loss of his wife and baby, moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.

Chuck and Forever scribe Matt Miller is writing this new take on the property, while Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz will executive produce. Unfortunately, the original Lethal Weapon producers won’t be involved in any way and will not be credited as a result, but the original filmmakers have apparently given this reboot their blessing.

Right now, Minority Report and Limitless are currently on TV, with Rush Hour set to join them later this year. Other reboots in the works include The A-Team, Behind Enemy Lines, Friday the 13th, Training Day, and countless others. Do we really need yet another one in the form of Lethal Weapon? That remains to be seen, but let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below.
