It wasn’t too long ago that we brought you the news that A Most Violent Year director J.C. Chandor was on the verge of inking a deal to oversee high-profile crime drama Triple Frontier, and now, the filmmaker’s place at the helm has been confirmed.

Incubating over at Paramount Pictures, the project was guided into the spotlight by The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty dream team Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal. Upon laying the foundations, however, both Bigelow and Boal moved onto pastures anew – namely the starry Bowe Bergdhal biopic. Despite this, Chandor will still be adapting Boal’s script for Triple Frontier, situated in the hellish organized crime triangle between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Originally titled Sleeping Dogs – no affiliation to United Front Games’ open-world title of the same name – it’s understood that Paramount’s crime flick has five primary roles, and that both Tom Hanks and Will Smith were once attached to star. Beyond that, though, there’s scant details about the nascent project at this time, though with J.C. Chandor now appointed at the helm, the studio will be keen to get the ball rolling on this one sooner rather than later.

Such a commitment will mean that Chandor will be juggling Triple Frontier with The Liar’s Ball, a financial feature that takes place in New York City – one which the director is also producing. Of course, the filmmaker has found some free space on his schedule of late, after opting to pass up directing duties on disaster pic Deepwater Horizon, which charts the event of a catastrophic oil spill.

No word yet on a release window for J.C. Chandor’s latest outing behind the lens, but the fact that the director has A Most Violent Year, All is Lost and Margin Call cramming up his résumé, don’t be too surprised if Paramount fast-tracks Triple Frontier into development.
