It’s no secret that Jared Leto has gone full on method for his role as The Joker in Suicide Squad, and Will Smith is the latest to weigh in on the actor’s strange behaviour on set. Of course, Leto ended up winning an Oscar after doing the same for Dallas Buyers Club, so it’s easy to understand why he’s once again utilizing that for this complex and deranged Batman villain.

We already know that Leto sent some bizarre gifts to his cast mates in character (including a live rat and hog carcass), but it turns out that they never even got to meet the man behind the smile.

“I’ve never actually met Jared Leto,” said Smith. “We worked together for 6 months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ He was all in on the Joker.”

That must have led to some strange tension on set, but it will no doubt come across well on screen.

Leto’s take on The Joker in Suicide Squad has been a hot topic of debate, especially as he’s following in the footsteps of Heath Ledger. Whether he’ll be able to top that and the chances of the David Ayer helmed movie nabbing him another Oscar remains to be seen, but we’re no doubt in store for something special.
