Stylized in the vein of a buddy cop movie, the maiden clip introduces the titular pair to a worldwide audience, as they set about safeguarding Sonoma Galaxy from the oncoming and malevolent Chairman Drek. Not unlike Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire, the film’s lead villain has been hopping from star system to star system, leaving a trial of decimated planets in his wake.

In order to put an end to his reign of destruction, Ratchet puts himself forward to join the Galactic Rangers, an elite task force made up of the very best and bravest soldiers from Solana and its galactic neighborhood. But our anthropomorphic Lombax – a feline-line creature that’s somewhere between a cat and a fox – is turned away for not fitting the criteria, leading him to find Clank, the sentient, wise-beyond-his-years robot glimpsed in the trailer.

Retaining the same sense of humor as Insomniac’s beloved video game franchise, there’s a real charm to Ratchet & Clank, from breaking the fourth wall to the larger-than-life characters. It’s casting sheet is no slouch, either, with Paul Giamatti, Rosario Dawson, John Goodman and Hollywood veteran Sylvester Stallone all on board.

Ratchet & Clank will blast into theaters – and hopefully bring an end to the video-game-to-movie curse – on April 29, 2016.

A CG-animated movie based on the iconic PlayStation video game. Two unlikely heroes struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy “lombax” who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way, they will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.
