Cult horror comic Hack/Slash has spent years in development as a movie, but now THR is reporting that it’s being set up as a series at Relativity Television.

Over the years, the project has courted directors such as Marcus Nispel, Fredrik Bond and Todd Lincoln, with Justin Marks and Stephen Susco among the writers that took a crack at the script. Now, the series will be produced by Adrian Askarieh and Ray Ricord, with Skip Woods (Swordfish, A Good Day to Die Hard, the Hitman movies) on writing duties. Apparently the “goal to make it a dark and gritty show in The Walking Dead mold.”

For the uninitiated, THR has also provided a synopsis:

Hack/Slash centers on Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the cliche of the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. But now, the emotionally damaged girl not only survived but has become a killer of killers. Along with a burly protector named Vlad, Hack travels across the country hunting slashers in the vein of Halloween‘s Michael Myers, Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger.
