It’s almost two weeks to the day until Halloween, and Paramount Pictures is getting into the holiday spirit a little ahead of schedule with the riotous, decidedly NSFW clip for Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, which can be seen at Coming Soon.

Uniting a trio of bumbling survivors together – namely Tye Sheridan, Logan Miller and Joey Morgan – with Halston Sage’s no-nonsense cocktail waitress, the delightfully violent R-rated comedy tasks the unlikely heroes with, well, surviving a zombie apocalypse. Stumbling into an eerily vacant strip club, our hapless protagonists soon find themselves face to face with a member of the undead, with hilarity and serious bloodshed ensuing.

Directed by Christopher B. Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones), Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse harbors a light-hearted sense of fun amidst the violence and flesh-munching. Based on a script from Emi Mochizuki & Carrie Evans, it would be easy to lambast the horror comedy for shuffling down a well-tread path. After all, be it Shaun of the Dead or the rather excellent Zombieland, the zombie genre has been tackled from seemingly every angle in the book, but based on today’s clip, Landon’s feature still shows signs of promise.

That burning ‘what would you do during a zombie apocalypse?’ question is so deeply embedded in the cultural zeitgeist that any film that offers up a slightly different spin on the formula is deserving of our attention. Today’s red-band clip really drives that point home, too, only with portraying the end of days through the eyes of gullible, wholly naive teenagers.

Embracing its genre with two undead hands, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse will open on October 30.
