Up until now, pretty much everyone has assumed that Rachel McAdams (True Detective) will be playing Clea in Doctor Strange, but it sounds like Marvel will be heading in a slightly more surprising direction.

According to a new report, the actress has actually been cast as Christine Palmer/Night Nurse. There have been a few different versions of this character in the comic books, though this one is by far the most obscure, as she’s only made a handful of very brief appearances over the years. The better known version is Linda Carter, a Night Nurse who took on a starring role in Brian K. Vaughan’s Doctor Strange: The Oath and became a love interest for the Sorcerer Supreme.

Linda ran a secret underground clinic catering to New York’s injured superheroes, while Christine was a surgical assistant (bear in mind that Stephen was a surgeon before becoming Doctor Strange). It seems likely then that we may be getting some sort of amalgam of both versions of Night Nurse.

Doctor Strange is currently set for a November 4th release and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo and Mads Mikkelsen, who is rumored to be playing Dormammu.
