Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel has been talking a lot about playing Black Bolt in Marvel’s Inhumans movie lately, but it now sounds as if he’s dialling back his expectations somewhat. After all, the actor has pretty much confirmed that he will star in the film, though those of you who assumed it was simple hyperbole may want to pat yourselves on the back!

In a recent interview, Diesel explained what Marvel will need to do to get him to say yes to playing Black Bolt in Inhumans, a role they obviously haven’t offered him as of yet.

“I don’t do too much ‘if it happens.’ Do you know what I mean?…I don’t do too much ‘if it happens,’ it’s more at what level it will happen…it’s not a matter of me wooing Marvel, it’s a matter of Marvel wooing me. And I love them, but I’m just saying, show me a dope script and show me a great director, all of which I know that Kevin [Feige] is capable of, because he dazzled me when he suggested Groot. That was, like, profound to me. Of course he was playing off of ‘The Iron Giant,’ so it did feel like a natural next step for that, and a way to service ‘The Iron Giant’ in a kind of new form. It couldn’t have gone better; I thought it was genius. I’m not going anything just for work. I’m doing things that I can feel passionate about, and that I feel like I can contribute to.”

It’s understandable why any actor would require all of those things before saying yes to starring in a movie, but Diesel is being a little picky here considering that he’s probably really not someone Marvel’s Kevin Feige has any real desire to woo. While he would undoubtedly be a good choice for the role of Black Bolt in some ways, you have to imagine that the studio is after a bigger name who can be relied upon to deliver the kind of subtleties a character like Black Bolt requires.

Regardless, The Last Witch Hunter star has made his interest in Inhumans clear, so it remains to be seen now whether or not Marvel decides to reach out to him.
