When Avatar opened back in 2009, it set box office record after box office record and remains the highest grossing movie of all-time. While it’s still too early to say whether or not Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be the one to take that spot, analysts are already predicting big things for the highly anticipated return to a galaxy far, far away.
With tickets selling record amounts and demand crashing the websites offering them, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already broken every pre-sale record both in North America and in the UK, hence why it’s expected to open with $600 million worldwide this December (a figure which easily tops Jurassic World‘s impressive $524.4 million haul). It should also break the current $208.8 million domestic record with upwards of $300 million, an incredible number. As a result, $1 billion is obviously only going to be the start for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The box office isn’t the only place that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is currently dominating. Social media was on fire in the span of 24 hours between the 19th and 20th of this month, with over 1.1 million Star Wars related Tweets sent out during that period, while Star Wars tickets have been popping up on eBay with prices ranging from $100 to $1500, believe it or not.
This Christmas is going to be very interesting when it comes to box office results, though we’ll likely have to wait until the New Year to get an idea just how high Star Wars: The Force Awakens will go.
