Peyton Reed In Talks To Direct Ant-Man And The Wasp

During the press tour for Ant-Man, Peyton Reed talked passionately about his desire to return to direct the sequel. However, when Marvel announced plans for Ant-Man and The Wasp (set for release in July 2018), there was no mention of who would be taking the helm. During the press tour for Ant-Man, Peyton Reed talked passionately about his desire to return to direct the sequel. However, when Marvel announced plans for Ant-Man and The Wasp (set for release in July 2018), there was no mention of who would be taking the helm. Fear not though, as The Hollywood Reporter has now learned that Reed is indeed in talks to continue working in this corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Brought in at a fairly late stage to replace Edgar Wright, many fans weren’t sure that Reed would be able to deliver an Ant-Man anywhere near as good as what Wright had planned, and while we’ll never know what that movie would have looked like, he did do an incredible job, which far exceeded expectations and left everyone hoping he’d be back for the follow-up.

With Reed looking set to direct Ant-Man and The Wasp, there’s no word yet on who will be writing. Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish – who definitely won’t be back – wrote the screenplay for the first film, which was later rewritten by star Paul Rudd and Anchorman director Adam McKay.

It sounds like Ant-Man and The Wasp has become a real priority for Marvel, especially after the first movie’s recent opening in China. It debuted with an impressive $43.2 million, a figure which takes its current worldwide total to $455 million. It’s thought that Ant-Man will end up grossing over $500 million by the time all is said and done, an incredible number for a movie featuring such an obscure character.
