Initially hatched at Paramount Pictures, the comedy feature formerly known as Bad Moms has undergone something of a rebranding, now that The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the project has been given a new lease of life at STX Entertainment, with Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Christina Applegate joining the cast.

Pulling the comedy back from the brink, many feared that Bad Moms would be condemned to development Hell rather quickly after both Leslie Mann and producer Judd Apatow exited the project earlier this year. Upon acquiring the project, STX announced that The Hangover‘s Jon Lucas & Scott Moore would write and direct the “timely picture,” and the studio mapped out plans to cast “half-dozen strong female lead roles.”

Now that Kunis, Bell and Applegate are all on board, Bad Moms is half-way there to a true revival at the company, with THR noting that Suzanne Todd and Bill Block are attached to produce. Upon announcing news of their casting, here’s the official logline of the dramedy per STX:

“Like most modern mothers, Amy takes care of everyone but herself. Her life is perfect: a happy marriage, overachieving kids, a beautiful home, and 365 good-hair days a year. She bakes for the school bake sale and chairs every committee – all the while holding down a career. And, she makes it all look easy. But just under the surface, Amy is at her breaking point — too over-worked, over-committed, and over-exhausted to take one more demand from anyone.”

Aiming to capture the stresses and universal pangs of modern-day life, the company is taking the necessary stride to enforce its comedy feature with strong female leads, and we’re hoping the finalized story can stand shoulder to shoulder with the star-studded early cast. No word yet on whether STX will release Bad Moms under a different title, but stay tuned for more.
