There’s Going To Be A Very Unexpected Love Triangle In Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is one of 2016's most highly anticipated comic book movies, and a big part of that comes down to the excitement over seeing these iconic villains interact. Harley Quinn and The Joker will no doubt be a highlight in that respect, but so too will be Harley and Deadshot, especially as they've recently embarked on something of a romantic relationship in "The New 52" DC Universe.

Suicide Squad is one of 2016’s most highly anticipated comic book movies, and a big part of that comes down to the excitement over seeing these iconic villains interact with one another. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and The Joker (Jared Leto) will no doubt be a highlight in that respect, but so too will be Harley and Deadshot (Will Smith), especially as they’ve recently embarked on something of a romantic relationship in “The New 52” DC Universe.

Why though would Harley betray The Joker in Suicide Squad? Well, it all comes down to her wanting to break free from the Clown Prince of Crime, according to director David Ayer.

“It’s about her breaking free of The Joker and becoming this fully actualised, independent person. That really is a metaphor for everyone’s journey here.”

Will Smith also weighed in on Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, teasing the dynamic she and the hitman will have, as well as touching on what lands his character in Bell Reve Prison.

“Harley is the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot’s actually eyeballing her a little bit. There’s a pretty ragged romantic triangle there. As the movie opens, he has a really big career score. He’s looking to turn over a new leaf with his daughter after the hit, but it goes wrong. It goes terribly, terribly wrong. And it lands him in Belle Reve for life.”

Past rumours have indicated that Suicide Squad will open with Harley Quinn trying to break The Joker out of Arkham Asylum and Deadshot being there to assassinate the villain, only for them both to be caught and taken into custody by Amanda Waller. Whether or not that ends up being the case remains to be seen, though it certainly sounds possible based on these comments.
