Now that the Internet has poured over each and every frame of the most recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, which has fuelled enough fan theories and intergalactic conspiracy theories to last a lifetime, the moviegoing masses – us included! – are strapping themselves in for the journey to the film’s release come December.
But if you’re expecting Disney and Lucasfilm to pump out trailer after trailer all in the hope of drumming up excitement for the sci-fi sequel, think again. Director J.J. Abrams recently confirmed in an interview with Extra that last week’s show-stopping snippet will be the last trailer released.
[zergpaid]It’s hardly surprising, really. On the one hand, Abrams and his creative team have showcased just the right amount of footage to the audience to garner interest, all the while keeping the likes of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker and Andy Serkis’Â Supreme Leader Snoke in the shadows. Heck, when ticket pre-sales when live in the aftermath of the trailer, Star Wars: The Force Awakens sold six times as many IMAX tickets as any other film in history, meaning that Disney really has no motivation to reveal any secrets ahead of time.
What can we expect up until December 18, then? As Abrams notes, we’ll likely be treated to a cavalcade of commercials and TV spots, which will likely lift many of the sequences from last week’s trailer and the first pair of teaser clips to maintain the film’s momentum in the build-up to release.
By all accounts, though, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to blast past just about every box office milestone on record when it touches down on December 18.
