If you’ve got your Quentin Tarantino bingo card handy, now would be the time to grab it. Yes, The Weinstein Company has released the latest rip-roaring trailer for the director’s bounty hunter feature The Hateful Eight, and it’s stylized in typical Tarantino fashion – the pulsing music, razor-sharp editing, and Samuel L. Jackson spouting obscenities.
Set against the icy-cold hills of Wyoming, Tarantino’s latest creative venture brings together a who’s who of nefarious bounty hunters, who are forced to put old rivalries aside and batten down the hatches of Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover that soon serves as their shared home for the course of the story. As today’s trailer indicates, Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh – who are on board to portray The Hangman and The Prisoner, respectively – will act as the focal point of The Hateful Eight, as they fight to reach their destination by any means necessary.
That won’t be as easy as it sounds, however, with Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, and Demian Bichir completing Tarantino’s dastardly, star-studded line-up.
Quentin Tarantino’s eight feature as director – how apropos – will hit theaters this holiday season when The Hateful Eight makes its 70mm debut in select theaters on Christmas Day. And we’re hoping the final product is even half as entertaining as today’s uproarious teaser.
In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff.
Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…
