Jennifer Lawrence And Amy Schumer Will Play Sisters In Their Self-Scripted Movie

Sometimes, a movie project comes along that seems like such a perfect scenario, with such a brilliantly matched cast, that we wonder why it never happened before. The latest of these sees Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence team up with Trainwreck writer and star Amy Schumer both in front of, and behind the camera. The pair have written a comedy together, which has them play sisters – with a twist.

That twist is to have the two actresses cast ‘against type,’ to a certain extent. While we are used to seeing Amy Schumer as a young woman unravelling under various pressures, this film will have her as the more stable sibling, while Lawrence is the one spiralling out of control – so the Hunger Games actress explained to Entertainment Tonight.

“Amy, in this movie, she has it very together. It’s her lifelong dream to be a flight attendant. She works at the airport. And I’m a MESS.

“I reached out and everything just happened so quickly. We both have a similar sense of humour, obviously, and aren’t afraid – which is a good thing and a bad thing, because I don’t know what our movie will be rated. And we’re both very blunt. So we’ve gotten through a really strenuous process without ever fighting because we’re both very straightforward.”

So far so good – both these women are hilarious and excessively talented – but that’s not the best part of the news. The best part of the news is that the leading roles are not the only aspect of the movie that will defy convention. While other films featuring two female leads tend to hinge on one or other of those women finding romance with a man, this film will not, according to Lawrence.

“No, no, no, no, no…. There’s not really boys in it.”

Form an orderly queue now, film fans. This project has critical and commercial success written all over it – not least because it represents the screenwriting debut of Jennifer Lawrence. The only way to make this high profile project more exciting would be to hire a woman director. How about it, ladies?
