Doctor Strange Set Pics Reveal Chiwetel Ejiofor As Baron Mordo

Another batch of images from the Nepalese set of Marvel's Doctor Strange give us our first glimpse of Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave, Serenity, Children Of Men) as one of the villains (well, most likely anyway) of the piece, Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo. Some previous set snaps featured a hooded figure conversing with Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme, and these photos confirm that it was indeed Eijiofor.

Another batch of images from the Nepalese set of Marvel’s Doctor Strange give us our first glimpse of  Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave, Serenity, Children Of Men) as one of the villains (well, most likely anyway) of the piece, Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo. Some previous set snaps featured a hooded figure conversing with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme, and these photos confirm that it was indeed Eijiofor.

In the comics, Baron Mordo was a fairly nasty piece of work who actually sacrificed his own mother and grandfather to Dormammu in an effort to gain more power. Following that heinous act, he met Steven Strange as a young man, and they both studied the mystic arts under the Ancient One – though Mordo never stopped plotting to do away with his rival and their mentor.

Reports from Patan Durbar Square where these scenes were being shot suggest Ejiofor’s character was acting as Strange’s guide, so there’s a chance that Mordo’s villainy has been dialled down a touch for this adaptation – unless of course he’s just acting the role of Strange’s ally and biding his time.

Doctor Strange also stars Rachael McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen and Michael Stuhlbarg, and is set to open on November 4, 2016.
