Bryan Singer Rumored To Direct Next X-Men Movie In Early 2017

As of right now, the future of the X-Men franchise is unclear. While 2016 will see the release of Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse and Gambit, 2017 has only the third Wolverine movie, and there’s nothing in 2018 as of yet. While an X-Men: Apocalypse follow-up for that year seems likely, it has yet to be confirmed, but a new report certainly points to that being the case.

According to Journal De Montreal (the site that broke the news about X-Men: Apocalypse heading back to the city for reshoots), the plan is for the next X-Men movie to start shooting there in early 2017. Bryan Singer is expected to be back at the helm, but it’s very likely that the scheduling may not work out in the end, given the fact that he’s supposed to be turning his attention to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea after X-Men: Apocalypse.

With the next movie billed as the end of the trilogy which began with X-Men: First Class, chances are that Singer will move on and serve only as a producer. After all, the focus is expected to shift to the younger mutants moving forward, and a fresh set of eyes to tackle that transition would be no bad thing.

We’ll just have to wait and see for now, but as the marketing campaign for X-Men: Apocalypse has yet to kick off (the first trailer won’t be with us until Star Wars: The Force Awakens), chances are that it’s going to a long time before we hear anything definite about the future of the franchise from Fox.
