During an interview to promote the upcoming Victor Frankenstein with IGN, James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe were asked a very geeky question about what would happen if Charles Xavier and Harry Potter went up against Frankenstein’s monster. As it turns out, the question reminded McAvoy of a scene he shot for Mathew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class that wound up being cut from the film, and when he describes how it played out, it’s not hard to see why.
Apparently, the scene in question saw Xavier and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) encounter a massive opponent that neither can take down using their mutant powers. That’s because not only is there no metal in the room for Mags to control, but the guy also happens to be too stupid for the Professor to work his mind magic on. So, they have to take him on the old fashioned way, which leads to the hapless henchman being dispatched via a stuffed bear head, after which Xavier delivers a cringe-worthy one-liner.
This is the first we’ve heard of the scene, but if it was indeed shot, then there’s a chance it could pop up on a future X-Men: First Class Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray. It’s certainly a bit silly, and it’s a good thing it was left on the cutting room floor, but there’s no denying that it could be fun for fans to see as a special feature somewhere down the road.
