It has finally been confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. Steve Carell, who plays Michael Scott on the hit comedy show ‘The Office’, will complete his contract, and end his time on the show at the end of its 7th season. Steve Carell who has influenced the show in so many ways states, “I think [season] 7 will be my last year. I want to fulfill my contract. I think it’s a good time to move on.” As of now, ‘The Office’ is said to carry on to an 8th season without Steve Carell’s character, Michael Scott.

Carell has managed to explode his career in the film industry becoming one of the most iconic comedians in film today. He has starred in such hits as the most recent ‘Date Night’ along with Tina Fey, ‘Get Smart’ which will be releasing a sequel sometime in 2012, as well as his most noticeable performance as, ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ which aloud audiences to see the potential and great talent Steve Carell has.

There is no question Steve Carell will continue to deliver great comedic performances in the coming years, but as for television, it seems to be the end. It will be a great loss for the show, but we will have to wait and see how audiences react to an 8th season without the very funny Steve Carell.

You can see Steve in his latest animated performance in ‘Despicable Me’ on July 9, 2010, and along side the very funny Paul Rudd in ‘Dinner for Schmucks’ which is set to release July 30, 2010.

Do you think ‘The Office’ can maintain its audience without Steve Carell’s character?
