Development on a fan made mod for Super Smash Bros. Brawl to bring it in line with earlier entries in the series in terms of balancing has been cancelled, says the team behind it.
A post on the mod’s official site reads:
We’ve learned so much in the process of making Project M… but there’s only so far we can take those skills in a volunteer project. With this in mind, we’ve made a difficult business decision: We’re ready to finish development here and move on to bigger and better ventures.
Thankfully though, this isn’t the last we’ve heard of the talented crew behind the mod – they’ve got more projects lined up for the future.
In the mean time, we plan to be hard at work on new projects, built from the ground up. We can’t spill the beans just yet, but know that we’re looking towards a fresh start with brand new designs.
Started by a team of over 50 volunteers, Project M was a community-driven mod that aimed to provide fans of the series with a more technical version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl that bared more similarities to its more competitive-focused predecessor, Super Smash Bros. Melee. The latter is still widely used today in e-sports competitions, regardless of the fact that two sequels have been released since.
