Despite previously comparing The Six Billion Dollar Man to a superhero, it sounds like the upcoming reboot is going to be heading in a much different direction. In fact, it sounds like this movie will be more along the lines of the Bourne franchise than The Avengers, something which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
After all, many reboots have suffered when studios have attempted to turn small screen properties into massive blockbusters (just look at The A-Team), and that’s not something The Six Million Dollar Man ever was.
In a recent interview at the UK premiere of Daddy’s Home, star Mark Wahlberg spoke about the direction of The Six Billion Dollar Man, and here’s what he had to say:
“We’ll be shooting it in the fall. [I’m] very, very excited. Damian [Szifron] has written an amazing script, and I can’t wait. I think it’s going to be a game changer. It’s action, but it’s very character driven. I would say it will be more like a Bourne than like a Marvel movie. Grounded. Real. Edgy.”
While it seems like it on the surface, I don’t think that’s a dig at the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, Wahlberg is likely just trying to get across the fact that The Six Billion Dollar Man will be more grounded and action orientated than superhero movies are. So, more Bauer than Batman, then. That’s certainly fine by us.
