Earth Is Under Attack In First Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer

Seemingly out of nowhere, FOX debuted the very first trailer for Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence. Following in the footsteps of the 1996 original, the sequel seems to have a pretty similar premise. From what we can tell, the aliens are back and this time they've got better weapons and tech to aid in their invasion.

Well, this was rather unexpected.

Seemingly out of nowhere, FOX debuted the very first trailer for Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day: Resurgence. So, more of the same really, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think we all know what we’re in for here and it certainly looks like it could be a lot of fun. After all, if there’s anyone who knows how to make a disaster film, it’s Roland Emmerich, right?

From the footage in the trailer, it’s clear that the studio is going for a darker outing this time around while still including a healthy dose of nostalgia, which could be a winning combination. The film may be taking itself a bit too seriously, and a lot of the humor from the original looks to be gone, but getting to watch Emmerich blow Earth up again should make for a good time at the theatre regardless.

Independence Day: Resurgence opens on June 24, 2016 While Will Smith has opted not to return for the sequel, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner are all back, along with newcomers Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Liam Hemsworth.
