Turok: Dinosaur Hunter Remaster Released This Week For PC

Night Dive Studios is continuing its reputation for bringing the first-person shooters of the 90s back from the dead with a new, remastered coat of paint. The developer has already announced plans for a full remake of the cyberpunk classic System Shock (whose long-awaited third installment was teased by Otherside Entertainment earlier this month), and now the studio has revealed that a remaster of the Jurassic shooter Turok: Dinosaur Hunter will be coming out for PC on Steam, GOG, and The Humble Store this week. The team has also announced plans to remaster Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil, though the release date for that one remains unknown.

The original game was released back in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 and Microsoft Windows and was considered one of the best shooters at the time, spawning a series of five other games ending with 2008’s reboot, Turok. Based on the comic book series of the same name, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter follows a Native American time-traveller who has to stop creatures from the Lost Land, a hostile world full of dinosaurs and other gigantic enemies, from breaching the barrier to Earth and wreaking death and destruction.

According to Eurogamer, the remaster will feature support for high resolutions and widescreen, improved gameplay and level design, support for v-sync, enhanced effects for elements such as lighting and water, ability to freely rebind all keys, and the addition of Steam achievements.

The gameplay trailer above shows a lot of savage, heavily-armed dueling with some nasty beasts, including enormous bugs, vicious plants, and dinos sporting a few firearms of their own. One big difference apparent from the trailer is that the remaster looks to have much better draw distance than the original, whose world was engulfed in so much shadow and fog that the player could only see a few feet in front of them.

You can try out the remaster of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter for yourself this Thursday, December 17th, on PC.
