Fox’s Ice Age franchise might boast a stellar box office haul, but let’s face it; the saga has seen better days. Over the course of four movies, the clutch of prehistoric mammals facing a variety of different tasks and challenges have been thoroughly mined for ideas. There’s nothing else really that warrants exploration. Well, that is, except the sole tenant of the animated series that’s the most entertaining – Scrat. The little determined squirrel returns, spearheading the fifth entry in the series, Ice Age: Collision Course.

While there’s likely an audience for this fifth outing – children with no new Pixar movie at their disposal – it might not be the first choice for accompanying adults. All the telltale signs of a flagging franchise are present in the trailer: the action is relocating to space. Whether or not Scrat’s misfortune is enough to satiate audiences, only time will tell. Before then, though, check out the preview above and let us know if you’ll be picking up tickets next summer.

Ice Age: Collision Course opens on July 22, 2016 in 3D and stars returning cast members Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Keke Palmer, Wanda Sykes, and Jennifer Lopez. Newbies offering their vocal stylings include Stephanie Beatriz, Adam DeVine, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Jessie J, Nick Offerman, Melissa Rauch, Michael Strahan and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, traveling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.
