Taylor Schilling Joins The Cast Of Sci-Fi Movie The Titan

Science fiction cinema may seem light years away from Litchfield Penitentiary, where actress Taylor Schilling can usually be spotted in the Netflix drama Orange Is The New Black, but that is where she is headed, as she joins the cast of The Titan. The film marks the feature length debut of not only director Lennart Ruff, but also of writer Max Hurwitz, who has delivered the screenplay from an original story by Arash Amel (Grace Of Monaco).

The film is set to deal with some fairly big themes. It is set in the near future, and sees a military family submit themselves for scientific experiments, aimed at breaking new ground in genetic evolution and space exploration. This premise looks to allow for dramatic development of both an intimate and grandiose nature, as science and the future of humanity collide with a small family unit.

This is a bold move for Schilling who has, of late, been combining her time on Orange Is The New Black with smaller film fare, such as The Overnight and Phil – by Greg Kinnear. With The Titan, she joins a cast that already features Golden Globe winner Tom Wilkinson (Selma), and Avatar star Sam Worthington, as well as Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

The Titan is due to begin shooting in January in locations within Europe, for a possible release date late in 2016 – so we can expect further casting announcements over the coming weeks.
