Krysten Ritter Says There’s “Lots Of Story Left To Tell” For Jessica Jones

While Netflix basks in the success of Jessica Jones – the second collaboration between the streaming platform and Marvel, after Daredevil – audiences are beginning to wonder why the show has not already had a second season commitment announced. The return of Daredevil was confirmed within two weeks of the show arriving on Netflix, and many expected similar progress for Jessica Jones. However, even showrunner Melissa Rosenberg seems a little bewildered about the status of the dramatic action series.

Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter was also unable to confirm anything when she recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter – but she could discuss her own attitude toward the possibility of reprising her role in the future.

“It’s such a tricky thing. I’m not supposed to talk about that. But I think there is lots of story left to tell with Jessica and I really love playing the character. I would love to throw on her boots and leather jacket anytime.”

It is possible that a second season of Jessica Jones has yet to be planned because Netflix is wary of trying to fit the rest of its Marvel collaborations in before the big Defenders team-up is scheduled to happen. In addition to a second season of Daredevil, the streaming platform is committed to a Luke Cage series, followed by an Iron Fist show, before the four superheroes band together to face some kind of undisclosed, but significant threat.

Regardless, Krysten Ritter is remaining very positive about the entire experience – going so far as to wonder how Jessica Jones might eventually come to be involved in the Defenders.

“It’s like hitting the lottery in terms of a gig. It’s rare to get a part in a show that’s greenlit, let alone two shows that have been greenlit. Everyone is so close-knit already on the crew. Mike Colter and I are super close, I’ve gotten to know Charlie [Cox] a little bit just because we’ve happened to cross paths in production. But I’m really looking forward to it. With the success of Daredevil and now Jessica Jones, they’re both so wildly different, and Luke Cage is going to be groundbreaking. Marvel and Netflix have proven they know what they’re doing. But it will be interesting to see how Jessica Jones fits in with those other guys because she doesn’t want to be a superhero. She doesn’t want anything to do with that. I have no idea how she’s going to be forced to team up with all of them.”

The four heroes – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist – are all reluctant in their own ways, so it will indeed be interesting to see how they all come together. For Jessica Jones, however, the question remains as to whether she will get a second series of episodes, or whether we will have to wait until the Defenders to see her in action again.
