The CW has released the first official images from the pilot episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, giving us our best look yet at the highly anticipated Arrow/The Flash spinoff. As well as putting a focus on the team which will be assembled by Rip Hunter, the stills also offer up a idea of the kind of team-ups we should expect to see in the series.

After all, it’s seeing characters who would never normally interact with each other sharing the screen that makes Legends of Tomorrow so exciting, and the trio of White Canary, Captain Cold, and Heat Wave is definitely unique.

Here’s the official synopsis for the series, which is set to debut in a little over three weeks from now:

On Thursday January 21, The CW kicks off a new night of action and adventure with the highly-anticipated series premiere of DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself.

Legends of Tomorrow has the potential to be the best DC Comics TV show to date, and it’s going to be very interesting to see how those responsible for the spinoff handle this team dynamic when the series premieres in the new year.
