Michael Fassbender’s Magneto may have flexed his powers to dramatic effect during Days of Future Past, uprooting an entire stadium in a fit of god-like mania, though next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse will up the ante quite considerably, as today’s mind-bending new concept art showcases.

Imbued with the power of Oscar Isaac’s titular and ancient deity, Magneto’s abilities have evidently been jacked going into the earth-shattering events of Apocalypse, and that can only spell danger for the mutant and human population alike.

Arriving via Entertainment Weekly, today’s artwork illustrates Fassbender’s all-powerful mutant literally bending the reality around him, flanked by two of the remaining members of the Four Horsemen – namely Alexandra Shipp’s Storm and Olivia Munn’s Psylocke – and Apocalypse himself. In tandem with the image, director Bryan Singer spoke to EW about the returning Fassbender, and how we’ll be introduced to a Magneto far more powerful than what we’ve seen before.

“One of Apocalypse’s many powers is he can imbue other mutants with greater ones. Magneto is demonstrating a small taste of what he can do now. Magneto is already enormously powerful…. Now Apocalypse gives him powers far beyond what we’ve seen before.”

Brining together an ensemble that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Rose Byrne, Lucas Till, Tye Sheridan, Olivia Munn and Oscar Isaac as the title big bad, X-Men: Apocalypse will loom into theaters on May 27, 2016.

“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
