Black Panther will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War next year, and while Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa is set to play a key role there, it sounds as if his upcoming solo movie is going to be even more important. In fact, in a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was quick to emphasize just how big a deal this movie really is.
“This one is important. Not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda which is a whole new setting and culture to explore.”
Feige wouldn’t confirm whether or not Creed‘s Ryan Coogler will take the helm of Black Panther, but revealed that the movie is going to have a “primarily African-American cast.” That will come as good news to those who have been hoping that Black Panther will be Marvel’s most diverse movie to date.
The producer then went on to tease how it ties into the wider MCU as a whole:
“It’s a big geo-political action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T’Challa in Wakanda, and what is means to be a king. T’Challa’s story is very important to us as it links to the next Avengers films, which is why we brought it forward.”
Could Wakanda have one of the Infinity Stones? That certainly seems possible given that the country has such a huge amount of history, but we’ll likely have to wait until Black Panther is released to find out for sure.
