Don’t Expect To See Thanos Appear In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Thanos made his first proper appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he was revealed to be the one pulling the strings in Guardians of the Galaxy, but it doesn’t sound as if we should expect him to factor into the sequel in a similar way. In fact, his declaration of war at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron looks set to be something which leads directly (and rather appropriately) into the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

Talking in a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed the absence of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and teased the Mad Titan’s plans for the MCU moving forward:

“I wouldn’t look too hard in [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2] for Thanos. The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It was be, ‘Oh, that’s why they’ve been teasing this villain for five years.”

While it would have been good to flesh the villain out a little in this sequel, it’s not necessarily a bad thing that Marvel will be making us wait to see more of the iconic character. However, while he may have been benched, it does at least sound as if we should expect to see some interesting additions made to the roster of the titular team.

“There’ve been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics and we’ll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie.”

Regardless of these comments, you have to believe that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is going to set up the events of Avengers: Infinity War in at least some ways, though we’ll likely have to wait until the movie is released to find out how.
