In tandem with the new footage, there’s also an array of images for the actioner, shedding light on the film’s leading players along with Bay himself on set. Based on Mitchell Zuckoff account of the storied assault from 2012, 13 Hours centers on the night Islamic militants led an assault on the American diplomatic compound based in the Libyan city. Expect military heroism aplenty, and today’s new tease offers up a new look at, yes, the action set pieces, but also the core characters.

Even if 13 Hours is told through a very particular, pro-American lens, the fact that Paramount recruited some of the soldiers that experienced that fateful night first hand – namely Mark ‘Oz’ Geist, Kris ‘Tanto’ Paronto and John ‘Tig’ Tiegen – ought to lend Bay’s film a sense of authenticity. As for the actors portraying the besieged soldiers, the director has assembled a cast that includes Pablo Schreiber, John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, David Denman, Max Martini and Dominic Fumusa.

Go behind the The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi when 13 Hours opens in theaters on January 15 and stay tuned to We Got This Covered over the coming days when we’ll have our own verdict on Michael Bay’s latest venture behind the camera. Unmitigated Bayhem? Or a water-tight thriller with tangible dramatic heft? We’ll find out very soon indeed.

13 Hours presents, for the first time ever, the true account of the events of September 11, 2012, when terrorists attacked the US State Department Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA station called the Annex in Benghazi, Libya. A team of six American security operators fought to repel the attackers and protect the Americans stationed there. Those men went beyond the call of duty, performing extraordinary acts of courage and heroism, to avert tragedy on a much larger scale. This is their personal account, never before told, of what happened during the thirteen hours of that now-infamous attack.
