Darren Aronofsky‘s next project, one which he’ll write, produce and direct, is beginning to pick up speed after finding a home at Paramount. Not only that, but according to Variety, the untitled 2017 release looks to have cast Javier Bardem opposite Jennifer Lawrence, though representatives for the former declined to confirm the casting coup at this time.

Though it’s still shrouded in mystery, the outlet notes that the director’s latest creative venture will revolve around “a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence,” with Lawrence and Bardem presumably in contention to topline the drama as the troubled pairing.

Eyeing a spring start date for the project, Aronofsky will produce the feature in collaboration with Scott Franklin and Ari Handel. Indeed, the film set up shop at Paramount after New Regency – where Darren Aronofsky holds a first-look deal – opted to pass up the yet-to-be-titled picture. That means a reunion for the studio and director, given that Paramount distributed his most recent directorial effort Noah in 2014, when the biblical epic pulled in a respectable box office to the tune of $362 million worldwide.

Even still, the film wasn’t on par with some of the other releases lining Aronofsky’s prestigious track record, which includes everything from the cerebral Pi to Black Swan and Requiem For a Dream. With only a release window and tentative cast in place, it’s too soon to tell whether the filmmaker’s feature can mark a return to surreal, visceral form that defined his earlier work behind the lens.

From what we understand, Jennifer Lawrence is a lock for Darren Aronofsky‘s 2017 feature film, with Javier Bardem circling the perimeter. However the final cast shapes out, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
