The Russo Brothers Seem Interested In Directing A Solo Black Widow Movie

Out of all the heroes that made up Marvel's original Avengers roster, only Hawkeye and Black Widow still haven't had a solo movie adventure - and out of those two it's that latter fans most want to see headline her own movie. Various people involved with the MCU, from Kevin Feige to Scarlett Johansson herself, have commented on the possibility of seeing it happen someday, but so far there doesn't seem to be anything official in the pipeline.

Out of all the heroes that made up Marvel’s original Avengers roster, only Hawkeye and Black Widow still haven’t had a solo movie adventure – and out of those two it’s that latter fans most want to see headline her own movie. Various people involved with the MCU, from Kevin Feige to Scarlett Johansson herself, have commented on the possibility of seeing it happen someday, but so far there doesn’t seem to be anything official in the pipeline.

Could Joe and Anthony Russo finally get things moving? It definitely sounds like it’s something they’d be very interested in, if their comments in a recent interview are thing to go by:

Hell yeah! We love that character!”Anthony Russo quickly chimed in: “And we love Scarlett [Johansson]!” Joe Russo then added: “We find that the character is one of if not the richest character in the Marvel universe. A very complex character, haunted by demons and her understanding of the world is fascinating. I think there is a lot that can be done with that character.

It’s quite possible the Russos do have some sway at Marvel at this stage, but the final decision on something like this rests with Feige and the studio suits. Phase 3 plans are laid out, but you’d have to believe that Marvel will want to capitalize on the popularity of the Black Widow character and Johansson’s box office appeal at some point in the future, right?
