Nominations For The 68th Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards

The Directors Guild of America has just announced their nominees for feature film, and while this is usually the part where I would mention any surprises that occurred, it turns out that there aren't any this year. All five nominees for their top honor matched my predictions from last night, so let's take a look at who's included.

The Directors Guild of America has just announced their nominees for feature film, and while this is usually the part where I would mention any surprises that occurred, it turns out that there aren’t any this year. All five nominees for their top honor matched my predictions from last night, so let’s take a look at who’s included.

As fully expected, the top two nominees, Miller and Inarritu, are here. Miller has been an unstoppable force throughout the entire awards season so far and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, while Inarritu has shown that he’s a force to be reckoned with, especially after his Golden Globe win.

It’s also great to see Sir Ridley Scott make the cut for his fantastic work on The Martian. While he hasn’t been given that many awards for the film, at the very least he’s getting recognized for it, with the DGA nomination being a very big deal since it’s chosen by his director peers.

Rounding out the category are Tom McCarthy and Adam McKay, the two whose direction I can’t really get behind for this category because it’s just not that noteworthy. But apparently the DGA saw something of merit in their work, so they’ve been included, just like their films have been included in most of the other guild nominations.

At this moment, it looks like an easy win for Miller, but last year at this time it looked like an easy win for Richard Linklater, and we all know how that turned out. So before we put anything in stone, we’ll just have to see how the awards play out leading up to the DGA awards on February 6th.

Coming up this Thursday morning is one of the biggest announcements of the year, the Oscar nominations, so be sure to join us bright and early to see if your favorites make the cut.
