As part of the Kickstarter campaign for Stasis, there was the promise of an eventual prequel chapter to delve into the history of the game’s antagonistic Cayne Corporation. Now, that prequel chapter is in development, but developer Brotherhood is keen for fans of the game to know that it represents more than just a shoe-horned addition to the original content.
The point-and-click horror title was well-received upon release, and it seems like the developers are far from content to rest on their laurels.
Chris Bischoff explained his thinking for the prequel in a recent blog post, saying:
I want to push the design of Cayne into new directions. Cayne will portray more of Nic and my personal game styles—in all aspects, from the story to characters and environments. We want to bring in something slightly different to [the] Stasis universe to challenge ourselves. But Cayne is set in the same universe, so we aren’t going to stray too far from our ’80s roots.
Bischoff also talks about the challenge of rendering the new environments in what he describes as a “2.5D system,” and the desire to have dynamic new techniques for adjusting the lighting in different rooms to update in real time.
There’s no word on a release date for the Stasis prequel chapter just yet, but we’ll bring you more information as we get it.
