Who here needed a bit of Friday cheer? For those of you who lapped up the 2008 found footage monster flick Cloverfield – then we’ve got news that should have you grinning from ear-to-ear. The J.J. Abrams-produced 10 Cloverfield Lane is due for release in two months’ time, and being dubbed by the man himself as a ‘blood relative’ to the original.

Dan Trachtenberg directs the movie that’s been operating under the working title of Valencia since 2014 when Bad Robot announced the film as a “post-apocalyptic thriller.” That description alone doesn’t immediately conjure up the idea of a monster sequel. Well, unless Clovie and his spidery offspring have been ravaging the planet for years since the first installment.

Here’s what Abrams himself told Collider when the real title for the new film ‘leaked’ last night:

“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

In that case, Abrams and co. have been keeping with the spirit of the first flick: brilliantly-executed viral marketing. It worked back then, and by the looks of the internet today, it’s working again now.

The teaser itself keeps its cards to its chest – plot-wise – and delivers some eerie chills thanks to its accompanying soundtrack. It’s clear that the main cast are kept in a bunker of some sort, with one attempting to keep the other two inside at all costs. Will it be a full-blown “AH, there’s actual reptilian beasts coming this way!” film? Or, as both the trailer and poster below implies, is the monster a man?

Starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr., 10 Cloverfield Lane opens on March 11th, 2016.
