The Oldest Electronic Music Act Alive Tops Movement Detroit’s Phase 1 Lineup

Electronic music massive Movement Detroit has stood out as a mainstay of diehard house and techno enthusiasts since the turn of the millennium, but with the recent rise in popularity of underground styles of dance music the festival will have to go to drastic measures to remain fringe. The festival's organizers appear to have recognized this, as they've topped the phase 1 lineup announcement for the 2016 edition with none other than electronic music's oldest pioneers: Kraftwerk.

Electronic music massive Movement Detroit has stood out as a mainstay of diehard house and techno enthusiasts since the turn of the millennium, but with the recent rise in popularity of such styles, its organizers must now go to drastic measures to foster a culture of exclusivity. They appear to have recognized this, as they’ve topped the phase 1 lineup announcement for the 2016 edition with none other than electronic music’s oldest pioneers: Kraftwerk.

For the uninitiated, the members of Kraftwerk experimented with electronic instrumentation since 1970 – over a decade before Frankie Knuckles would begin to formulate the club-friendly style of disco that would come to be termed “house music.” While founding member Florian Schneider left the group in 2008, the active members continue to perform live to the present day. Kraftwerk’s performance at Movement Detroit will showcase their Kraftwerk 3-D stage show concept, which they have fine-tuned over the years since its 2009 debut.

Of course, Movement Detroit‘s lineup is not without the usual suspects; Adam Beyer, Seth Troxler, Guy Gerber and Richie Hawtin are but a few of the celebrated house and techno acts to return to its 2016 roster.

Take a look at the phase 1 lineup announcement below and check back for additions in the the months leading up to the festival, which will take place from May 28th-30th in Hart Plaza.
