In the past two years, Jeremy Renner has become one of the hottest names in Hollywood. After his first Oscar nomination for his performance in 2009’s The Hurt Locker, he was nominated again for the 2010 film The Town. Now, he’s making appearances everywhere, including Thor and the upcoming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Soon, he will be producing two biopics. One is about Steve McQueen, appropriately titled McQueen, and the other is a rally racing film called Slingshot.

Variety reported Friday that Renner and producer Don Handfield, who also serves as screenwriter for the film, will release the film through their production company, The Combine. Renner will star as Bill Caswell, the underdog rally racer who bought a 1991 BMW 318i for $500 on Craigslist and competed in the World Rally Championships in Mexico in 2009.

Renner is becoming quite the busy man these days. He is also working on The Bourne Legacy, The Avengers, Ice Age: Continental Drift and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters — all due to be released in 2012. That’s quite a load for one man, but he’ll probably pull it off successfully.
