Last week, Deadpool released a new promo vid in which he made a few gags about his oft-derided scenes as Wade Wilson alongside Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and while promoting his new movie Eddie The Eagle at Sundance, Yahoo! asked Jackman if he had a response.

The Aussie actor was as jovial as ever about it, but couldn’t resist getting a little dig of his own in at the same time.

Love it. It’s just brilliant. I mean, I love Ryan, he’s a good mate of mine. He’s so fantastic,” Jackman answered cheerily. But does he think Wolverine would still be able to take down Deadpool? “A hundred percent,” a grinning Jackman replied without missing a beat.

We’ve heard numerous times now that Jackman’s next turn as the feral mutant in James Mangold’s sequel to The Wolverine is to be his last, but from the sounds of things, he wouldn’t be opposed to a rematch with the Merc With a Mouth if Deadpool ever gets a sequel of his own.

I’ve never thought about it till now, but doing something with Ryan – he’s awesome – that’s always attractive to me. But I think you’ve probably got several other people lined up to play [Wolverine]..
