Clive Owen Is Perfectly Cast In First Trailer For The Confirmation

On the face of it, it’s a simple story of a boy bonding with his father. But, like all good writing, there is a great deal more to be found, just below the surface – as the new trailer for The Confirmation corroborates. Divorce, past misdeeds, the perception of others, the quest for redemption – this film would seem to encompass everything about moving forward in life, and embracing uncertainty. All of that adds up to something that has the potential to be a wonderfully life-affirming experience.

Written and directed by Bob Nelson – whose screenplay for 2013’s Nebraska earned him an Academy Award nomination – The Confirmation sees Jordan Lieberher (Aloha), Matthew Modine (Proof), Robert Forster (Olympus Has Fallen), Stephen Tobolowsky (The Goldbergs) and Tim Blake Nelson (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) join Clive Owen (The Knick), Maria Bello (Prisoners) and Patton Oswalt (Young Adult) in the cast. This is the directorial debut of Nelson, and appears to be an impressive one at that.

While it is often the case that trailers are edited to skew the preview of a film in a particular direction, The Confirmation looks to strike a very specific comedic tone – one which is perfectly suited to the style of a well-cast Clive Owen. The prospect of his especially dead-pan, dry delivery sparking with the razor-sharp, quick-fire instincts of Patton Oswalt, makes The Confirmation a movie to seek out when it arrives in theatres and on iTunes on March 18th, 2016.

“Clive Owen shines in this irresistible comedy as Walt, a down-on-his luck carpenter tasked with entertaining his eight-year-old son Anthony while Anthony’s mom (Maria Bello) and her new husband are away. But when Walt’s prized toolbox is stolen, a quiet father-and-son weekend turns into an adventure of a lifetime. Aided by an oddball drywall repairman (Patton Oswalt), Walt and Anthony go on a wildly funny search for the thieves—and find something they never imagined: a true family connection.”
